Two Rivers Church serves Eaton Elementary School in several significant ways through tutoring, mentoring, clothes and food giveways and more. We have a long term goal of reducing the 50% poverty rate over the next 20 years.
Mentoring
Two Rivers and Eaton Elementary school have teamed up with Kids Hope USA to mentor the most at risk kids that attend Eaton. Each week "Bigs" (mentors) from Two Rivers Church head over to Eaton to meet with their "Littles" (the kids) for 45 to 60 minutes and talk about life, struggles or whatever the child wants to talk about. We provide a stable, caring and loving adult for these children, and often, we are the only such presence in the child's life. For every Little, there is also a prayer partner at Two Rivers.

Tutoring – Project 1 Child
The Eaton Tutoring Program coincides with the two school semesters. The Fall program lasts from mid-October to mid-December. The Spring program lasts from mid-February to mid-April. Tutors who commit to the Fall and/or the Spring programs can expect to work with the same child for the entire semester and can choose from 1 to 4 mornings a week as their schedule allows. Tutors arrive at 7:15am and can expect to be on their way by 8am.
Eaton teachers provide the tutors with a packet of materials for each specific child. We are tutoring the children in very basic academic skills.
Eaton Christmas Blessing
Once a year Two Rivers Church hosts Eaton Christmas Blessing, a major Christmas giveaway for the parents and children of Eaton Elementary school. This event includes food for each family for two weeks, clothing, toys for all the kids in the family, prayer opportunities, kids activities and a lot of Christmas cheer and food served.
During the rest of the year, Two Rivers also provides a locker in the school where children can go to find warm clothes during the winter. Soon, clothes giveways will be incorporated into each of our major food giveways (below).
If you wan to donate good new or gently used childrens' clothes, just drop them off at the church Welcome Desk at any time!
Food
Two Rivers Church in partnership with 2nd Harvest provides backpacks of food to 130 children at Eaton Elementary School on Fridays. This ministry provides the only subsistence over the weekend for most of these children.
Two Rivers also has three major food giveaways throughout the year at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. We are able to provide for over 50 families at each of these events! Again, especially over Christmas break, it is the main subsistence for many of these children.
Campus Maintenance
Two Rivers started serving Eaton by helping to maintain the school's campus, largely through planting flowers, landscaping and other outdoor maintenance. Today, The Mix (middle schoolers) have adopted this as their own ministry and regularly go and help out wherever is needed!
